Description: In A Christmas Angel Match, Monica (Meghan Ory) and Michael (Benjamin Ayres) are Christmas Angels assigned to bring destined soulmates together during the most magical season of all. Normally, Angels work solo, but when the Christmas Connection Department faces downsizing (yes, apparently Heaven has HR), they’re paired up to make sure Daisy and Patrick fall in love before Christmas. Monica’s a by-the-book rule follower; Michael’s a spontaneous charmer who loves snowball fights and hot cocoa. Their styles clash, their wings get ruffled, and—because it’s Hallmark—they start falling for each other instead.
Chemistry: Ory and Ayres are pros, and their contrasting styles worked well—she played the heavenly perfectionist, he brought the mischievous warmth. Together, they were a great balance… until the kiss. That final moment had all the passion of two teenagers awkwardly trying to figure out where noses go. I get it, they’re angels, but still. Secondary characters didn’t help much either—stiff line delivery from the older folks and no visible sparks from the “destined” couple they were meant to match.
Plot: Forced proximity with a celestial twist! It’s a creative spin on a familiar setup, though I finished with more theological questions than romantic satisfaction. (“Do angels have paperwork to fill out?”) Still, conceptually fun and on-brand for Hallmark’s lighter fantasy fare.
Design: Classic Hallmark—pretty, polished, and reliably festive. The decorations were solid, though there was some suspicious snow and a fake Christmas tree inexplicably sitting in the middle of the sidewalk. Points for effort, though.
Overall: Not great. The concept had wings, but the execution never really took off. I left with more questions about angel logistics than belief in divine matchmaking. Still, it’s early in the season, and at this point, I’m too committed to quit.
Best Enjoyed With: A peppermint mocha and a theology textbook, just in case you want to unpack how celestial employment contracts actually work.
