Description: Chef Claire is reeling from bad reviews for her new restaurant in Chicago. She decides to head home to her Amish family and lie low to wait out the bad press. However, she canβt avoid it when a rideshare mix-up leads to her accidentally bringing a food writer named Jack. Sparks fly as the pair work to keep Jackβs identity and the fate of Claireβs restaurant a secret from her family. However, when a secret comes to light, will Claire be able to trust Jack?
Chemistry: Since this is an UPtv movie, the cast is relatively unknown. That said, these two were pretty good. Their acting was adequate, and they played off each other “enough.”
Plot: I’ll tell you this one is a hard sell from the beginning. I think everyone has pre-formed ideas about the Amish, so you’ll have to mentally sort all of that out as you watch. There are some moments that play into stereotypes, but there are also some well-done things.
Design: It’s Amish country, so it’s simple greenery and primitive houses. There wasn’t a whole lot to screw up, there.
Overall: It’s one of those movies that is just bad enough to be good. Solid for what it is, but don’t expect too much.
Best Enjoyed With: A vat of apple butter and some sourdough bread.
