Description: A grandmother’s last wish brings two estranged sisters, Faith and Kelly, back together to travel to the French Alps for Christmas to recreate her first trip there with their grandfather. Facing all the challenges and wonders this unique holiday adventure brings, they learn to cherish their sisterhood above all, while also making room for romance to blossom between Kelly and their French mountaineer guide, Frederic. Starring Ashley Williams, Laci J. Mailey, and Julien Samani.
Chemistry: Kelly and the French guide had good chemistry, even if he was a bit of a French caricature. To their benefit, they did move him out of that schtick quickly, so it was okay. But the real treat was the chemistry between Faith and Kelly. Their bickering felt like the kind of fighting that only real sisters could do.
Plot: I’m a sucker for any European travel Christmas movie, so I was in from the start. I did think there were some missed opportunities to make the ending more dynamic and tie things back to lines that were said at the beginning, but it was still good.
Design: The sets were great and the location shoots in France and Bulgaria were even better. The one questionable part was when they took a pit stop on their hike in a remote cabin that ended up being decorated for Christmas and possibly even had multiple bedrooms. It wasn’t the primitive stopover you would have expected.
Overall: It was a great watch. With half trees, it would be at four and a half, but alas, we rate down here at Holiday Movie Wrap.
Best Enjoyed With: Some sort of hot toddy or mulled wine, a snowy mountain landscape, and someone using a fake French accent… you know… for atmosphere.
