Overall: Snowbound for the Holidays was one missed opportunity away from five Christmas trees. Hallmark actually filmed this one on a real ski slope in real winter, which immediately puts it ahead of the movies that dump a bag of fake snow on the ground and hope nobody notices. The chemistry between the leads was adequate, the story moves along, and the setting does a lot of the heavy lifting. Unfortunately, the female lead just couldn’t quite cash in on the script’s comedic moments. The jokes are there, and they still made me laugh, but several of them land with a thud instead of a chuckle. The ski lodge is also a little tiny and more “budget roadside inn” than “destination resort,” but not enough to pull you out of the movie–and in this case it works toward the plot. This is still one of the better Hallmark entries of the year, particularly for summer, and an easy four trees.
