Description: Set in the charming town of Brookhollow, The Trouble With Christmas Mistletoe follows an acquisitions executive (Jillian Murray) who returns home for Christmas and unexpectedly reconnects with the former fiancé (Brett Varvel) she left behind. As the traditions of her hometown rekindle old memories, she begins to wonder if the life she walked away from may still be the one meant for her.
Overall: The Trouble with Christmas Mistletoe suffers from the same problem as so many Great American Christmas movies: it mistakes slow for cozy. The plot is fine on paper, but the script has all the energy of week-old eggnog, leaving the whole thing feeling far longer than it actually is. And then there are the decorations. Great American continues its fascinating tradition of decorating sets by emptying the clearance aisle at the craft store. Random bows stapled to walls. Poinsettias just… sitting on the floor. Honestly, the one thing that earned this movie its second Christmas tree was what appeared to be actual snow instead of the usual sad dusting of foam. It’s festive enough to remind you it’s Christmas, but not enough to make you part of their world.
